You definitely need the skills to back up the attitude, but confidence and a sense of purpose go a long way (and sprinkle in a little bit of ego).  Software engineers are a dime a dozen these days and most of us have all the skills in your list.  Rock stars differentiate themselves by cultivating that &quot;I can do anything&quot; attitude and not bowing down like some little servant to the demands of others.
